The race for the 46th district state assembly seat has revealed itself to be a race of separation as all three candidates reported different campaign contributions for the July filing period.
All three candidates have surpassed the required amount of signatures needed to appear on the ballot in September and November, but Democratic candidate Ethan Lustig-Elgrably has raised more than his two opponents, Republican Steve Saperstein, and fellow Democrat Mathlyde Frontus.
The three candidates are running to replace former Democratic Assemblywoman Pamela Harris, who resigned after facing counts of felony fraud, and for which she took a guilty plea.

Coney Island/Bay Ridge – Campaign finance listings are showing clear fundraising leaders among Southern Brooklyn hopefuls looking to fill the vacant seat in the 46th Assembly District.
With 55 days left before the hotly contested primary on Sept. 13, the three-way race to fill the seat of former Assemblywoman Pamela Harris is off and running. Harris’ seat opened in January when the embattled former elected stepped down on the heels of a federal investigation for fraud.
Ethan Lustig-Elgrably leads the group with a July filing of $85,540. The former staffer to City Councilman Mark Treyger has also won a number of big-ticket endorsements such as Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams and former New York City Comptroller, John Liu, who has himself launched a senatorial campaign against former IDC member Tony Avella in Queens.

Coney Island residents struggling to make ends meet might soon have to think twice before renting out that spare room on Airbnb to tourists wanting that first-hand America’s playground experience.
That after Ethan Lustig-Elgrably, the Democratic candidate for the State Assembly 46th district representing Coney Island, and parts of Brighton Beach, Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights, came out strongly against the shared housing economy. Airbnb is a leading company in this sector and serves as brokers for individual renters, co-op, condo and home owners to sublet their spare rooms for short stays.
“Airbnb is harming our city’s economy and working families, and our elected leaders must do more to hold them accountable,” said Lustig-Elgrably, adding he strongly opposes the shared housing economy.

Two competing candidates threw their hats into the ring to fill the now-empty Bay Ridge-to-Coney Island seat vacated by disgraced former Assemblywoman Pamela Harris (D–Coney Island), whom the feds charged in January with stealing from the city and storm-recovery agencies.
Democrat Ethan Lustig-Elgrably and Republican Steve Saperstein announced their campaigns this week, both with a handful of support touting their involvement in the community and desire to help the district’s students and seniors.
“From Bay Ridge to Coney Island, Southern Brooklyn needs a strong leader in Albany to get our fair share. I grew up here, and I know the challenges our families face,” said Lustig-Elgrably. “We need good schools, safe streets, support for our seniors, and better trains and buses. I’ve worked in public service, I fought for this community, and I’m going to make sure every one of us is honestly represented in Albany.”

Is the Bay Ridge side of the 46th Assembly District going to stand pat in the upcoming Democratic primary to fill the 46th Assembly District seat covering Coney Island, Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, Bath Beach and Brighton Beach?
That remains the question after Ethan Lustig-Elgrably yesterday announced his candidacy for the seat left vacant following the multi-count corruption indictment and recent resignation of former Assemblymember Pamela Harris.
Lustig-Elgraby said if elected he will focus on improving train and bus service, creating educational opportunities including programs for financial literacy and technical skills, cleaning up corruption, addressing the affordable housing crisis, supporting seniors, and strengthening the community’s storm preparedness and resiliency.
